What you pay and when
Pay $62 to Prometric when you register for your exam (exam codes 2024, 2027, or 2030 for most Life & Health paths). After you pass, pay $54 to the Maryland Insurance Administration through your NIPR application. You do not pay the license fee before the exam.
Exam fees are per attempt
Prometric charges $62 for every exam code, whether you take Life only (2027), Accident & Health only (2024), or the Life & Health combo (2030). Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. A retake means another $62 registration.
No required pre-licensing fee to schedule
Since October 1, 2024, Maryland does not require a state-approved pre-licensing course before you schedule. Optional study courses from commercial providers are separate—not part of the $116 minimum above.
Other costs to plan for
NIPR may charge transaction fees at checkout. Fingerprinting, background review, license renewal ($69 total per MIA renewal guidance), continuing education through Sircon, and agency E&O insurance are additional expenses beyond exam and initial license fees.
